Greetings,
We had many requests last year from customers who wanted fair trade
items for Day of the Dead and Halloween. I am delighted to announce
that we have teamed up with Casa Bonampak to bring you beautiful sugar
skulls, hand-cut paper banners, greeting cards and other decorations for
Day of the Dead and/or Halloween. My favorite greeting card has a
classy sepia image of the dapper skeleton El Catrin. The card has
organic marigold seeds mixed into the pulp so you can plant it when you
are done enjoying the picture - talk about a great way to recycle! The
sugar skulls are hand made using wooden molds passed down for
generations. They are decorated with colored foil and icing. They are
popular gifts between friends and are often used on Day of the Dead
altars. The paper banners are hand cut into whimsical dangling
skeletons or beautiful decorative panels. We hope you will come see
these unique items while supplies last.
Casa Bonampak supplied lots of great information about Day of the Dead
and we have enjoyed learning more about this festive holiday. Day of
the Dead is traditionally celebrated on November 1 and 2. According to
Nancy at Casa Bonampak, " Celebrations vary from region to region, but
everywhere in Mexico on the first and second of November, the dead are
welcomed with ceremony and respect... All over Mexico tombs are made
tidy and adorned with flowers, leaves and fruit. Elegant candle sticks
and incense burners are set out with offerings. In some homes, a path
of flower petals from the street to the altar guides the returning
souls... The dead are never forgotten because once a year they take
their place beside the living and enjoy the fruits and flowers of the
earth." For more information about Day of the Dead, visit us at One
World Market or see
